Nope, it will not deter me from taking a planned trip!

While it certainly was amusing to watch Prufrock lash out at and “identify” every shadow puppet as “Daffy” (which I am certain he continues doing even now, after I told him quite clearly that I will no longer even read anything over there), it does get boring after reading his repeats, and repeats, and repeats so many times.

The same applies to me, and I agree that it must have gotten just as boring reading my repeated rips on Prufrock – let’s face it, the guy is a one-trick pony, and as such doesn’t really offer much variety of content… even his “insults” repeat after a while. Thus, heeding the call from BangkokMIlkshakes, I’m done – the Prufrock horse is no longer worth beating, and BigDummy’s audience deserves better – and better content shall be provided.

In the interim, I’m using this blog (and rather cool forum/BBS theme) as a sort of personal logbook to keep track of stuff, or plaster up links of interest, or stuff I prefer to keep archived.

It’s also a good place to actually strike up a conversation, because the format of this page is dynamic, and it allows multiple visitors to actually chat to each other in real time. More on that later.

Did you ever have success disabusing anyone of their conspiracy theory?

Not once. The reason is that when you debate a conspiracy theorist it’s like challenging an NFL football team to a game. Because conspiracy theorists have spent their lives memorizing every single detail necessary to win an argument. Even if you have the facts on your side in an abstract way, you’re not going to win an argument if you have to go look at Google or go to the library to rebut every single point. They have hundreds of little confusing bits of information that they can throw at you. Even if you bat away 99 of them, the 100th, if you don’t repute it immediately, they’ll say, “Ah ha! There’s an anomaly that you can’t explain.” The way they define the terms of the debate is that they just have to get you on one point, and then they have destroyed the validity of the conventional narrative.

The second thing is, it’s a cult. And you can’t disabuse a cult member of their beliefs, because it’s central to their identity. Hardcore conspiracy theorists are attached to their conspiracy theories with the same force of conviction that religious adherents are attached to their religions. You can’t rationally convince someone not to be a Christian or a Scientologist. That’s their identity, that’s who they are.

Nevertheless, it amuses me to no end to witness the kind of a stronghold I have over Prufrock — without so much as doing anything at all. Quite the desperate tool he is, isn’t he?

Then again, there’s only one blog that spawns continued sockpuppet attacks, and that has a crazy member boasting of posting under numerous alias’ – because it’s fun.

O RLY?

That’s what’s so nice about the sockpuppets – they allow me to maintain a firm presence there without needing to be there, or bother writing anything up.

While I do pop in every now and then to see them arguing with themselves, I haven’t posted over at the idiot’s blog for the past 2-3 months.

That obviously doesn’t deter some of them to keep trying to get anyone back there to post.
